Day of Competition

Equipment Check

Equipment check will be begin 1/2 hour before the weigh-ins and will be done on a first come, first serve order. A BCPA Official, will check the following for IPF standards:

  • Clothing and equipment that you intend to wear in competition,
  • A printed OR digital copy of your CanPL Membership card,
  • and a copy of Sport Integrity Canada (SIC) certificate

Weigh-in

You will need to provide the following information. Ensure you have them ready before weigh-in.

  • rack heights
    • squat rack height
    • bench press rack height
    • bench press safety height.
  • rack orientation in squat
  • foot block request in bench press
  • and first attempts
    • squat
    • bench
    • deadlift

If you will be competing in the Bench Press Only competition, you will only need the Bench Press and safety rack heights, foot block request, along with your first attempt.

The order of the weigh in is determined by your randomly assigned Lot Number. Weigh-ins will take place no earlier than 2 hours before the start of the competition session and can last up to 90 minutes. If you weigh in too heavy, you may be re-weighed. If time allows, you will have 90 minutes from when the weigh-in started to make weight. If you do not make weight, you will have to move up to the next weight class.

Warming Up

Lifting will begin exactly 2 hours after weigh-ins start. You can start warming up at anytime. You will be required to use the provided bar collars. At this time, courtesy and safety is the best rule of thumb. If everyone helps each other with loading and unloading weight from the bar, everyone’s warm up will run smoother.

Where there is more than 1 flight, there will be NO BREAK between flights within the same session, other than a brief pause to reset the platform at the end of each flight. What this means is that if you are in Flight A, you will start squatting exactly 2 hours after weigh ins began. Flight B, you must warm up for squatting while Flight A is taking their squat attempts on the platform. While Flight B is taking their squat attempts on the platform, Flight A will be warming up for bench. As soon as Flight B is done squatting, there will be a 10 minute break before Flight A will start to bench on the platform and Flight B should start warming up for bench. Deadlift will be conducted in the same fashion. Ensure that you pay attention to the pace of competition so that you have sufficient time to warm up – this is your responsibility!

Competition

The first attempt lifting order will be posted shortly after the weigh-ins have been completed. You will have the opportunity to change your opening attempt 5 minutes before the start of the competition.

When you are called to the platform, you will have one minute to begin the lift. Once the lift has been completed, you will then have 1 minute to submit your next attempt to the scorekeeper’s table. If you do not submit your next attempt within that 1 minute, that attempt will not be accepted. In that instance, you will be given a 2.5kg increase on your next attempt if you completed the lift. If you did not complete the lift, your next attempt will be the same weight.

Please note that this is a drug-tested competition. You are subject to testing in and out of competition as soon as you complete your SIC Clean Sport module.

If you broke a BCPA record in one or more of your completed lifts, please remember to submit your completed Records Application form to the Records Chair within 7 days from the date of the competition.
